Sustainability can be evaluated from many sources – customers, investors, industry, peers, and regulators. Analysis helps companies identify strengths and weaknesses in current management processes and provide insights to drive sustainability initiatives. While Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors help businesses define operations, initiatives, and areas of opportunity.

Environmental

These factors include environmental conditions that can impact operations, as well as ways the course of business can affect the natural environment. Examples include greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, resource management, impact to biodiversity, and resiliency to overarching issues such as climate change. Environmental factors that will ultimately be relevant are dependent on the company, its scope of operations and its geographic location.

Social

These factors relate to the people within, or adjacent to, a company’s operations. Examples include protections for worker health and safety. commitments to eliminate child labor or modern slavery from the supply chain, increasing diversity and inclusivity within a company’s workforce and equity for marginalized communities.

Governance

These factors relate to the internal processes in place within a company to preserve coorporate integrity and commitments to transparent operations. Examples include protections for whistleblowers, frameworks to mitigate corruption and policies related to business continuity and resilience.

Service Offerings

There is a strong case for ESG management in the value chain that is anchored by effective data collection and management. Demands for transparency on ESG data throughout the value chain will only continue to grow, and having systems in place to facilitate data collection and vendor review will be crucial in helping ensure ongoing success. ISN’s ESG Assure® suite of services is designed to provide Clients, contractors, and suppliers with a platform in which ESG Data and supporting documentation can be securely collected and managed.

ESG Plus®

Introduced in 2022, ESG Plus is an implementation assessment tailored to contractor and supplier customers. ESG Plus® includes a review of supporting documentation and policies in place at the contractor or supplier’s company and culminates with a one-on-one interview process with an ISN sustainability professional.

At the end of an ESG Plus assessment, the contractor or supplier customer will have a better understanding of where its strengths are related to ESG, and any opportunities for improvement.

ESGSight

ESGSight uses a systematic approach to analyze perceptions of a Hiring Client’s ESG initiatives by unlocking valuable insights across fundamental ESG topics while detecting and removing bias. ESGSight also includes the option to reassess perception scores over time, providing the opportunity to track progress on perceptions and performance.

ISN’s consulting arm, Monarch® , serves as an independent party to facilitate assessments and enhances the ability for Hiring Clients to capture the voice of their employees, contractors and suppliers - leading to insightful findings and actionable opportunities to incorporate into existing ESG practices.

ESG Presence

Released to Hiring Clients in 2023, the ESG Presence Dashboard, powered by SignalAI, is used to gauge a connected contractor's or supplier’s ESG public presence from information sources such as news articles, blog posts, and podcasts. Through analysis of public media sources, mentions of connected contractors or suppliers related to ESG topics (positive or negative) is aggregated into one dashboard location, with a presence score from 0 to 100 assigned by SignalAI based on the overall sentiment of publicly available information.

ISN’s Sustainability Team can configure requirements to meet Hiring Client needs, and ISNetworld sustainability tools and services can collect ESG information and targets through data collection, procedural reviews, and certification verification.

Data-Driven Insights

Assessing contractor and supplier data is a crucial component in addressing a Hiring Client’s overall sustainability impact. Tracking contractor and supplier policies and information can ensure sustainability performance goals are met throughout the business’s operation. Peer performance benchmarking and tracking year-over-year contractor and supplier performance are two ways ISN can help use data to drive sustainability decisions.
